Garage Door Safety Sensor Repair in Upland, CA

Upland Garage Door Co. provides garage door sensor repair in Upland for the door that opens fine but refuses to close. The two photo-eyes at the bottom of the tracks are the opener’s safety system, and the lights on them tell you most of what’s wrong before we arrive.

Rancho Cucamonga homeowners see the same sun-glare and dust problems on west-facing garages.

Reading your sensor lights

Both lights solid: sensors are fine, problem is elsewhere

A solid light on each sensor means the beam is connected. If the door still won’t close, look to the opener’s force limit, the logic board or a wiring short.

One light off or blinking: misaligned or blocked

One sensor sends, the other receives. A blinking receiver means it can’t see the beam: something is in the path, or a sensor has been knocked out of line.

No lights: wiring or power

No light on either sensor means the low-voltage wire to the opener is cut, pinched or disconnected, or the opener itself has no power.

Why the door reverses or won’t close

The opener will not close the door unless it receives a clean signal from both sensors. If the beam is broken for even a moment during the close cycle, the door reverses and the opener light flashes. Holding the wall button overrides the sensors for one cycle, but that’s a workaround, not a fix.

Sensor problems we repair

Misalignment from a bump or vibration

A trash can, a bicycle or the door’s own vibration shifts a sensor a few degrees. We realign and tighten the brackets.

Sun glare on west-facing garages

Upland garages that face west catch low afternoon sun straight into the receiver. Sun shields or swapping the sensors so the receiver faces away from the sun solves it.

Chewed or broken wiring

The thin bell wire along the wall gets chewed, stapled through or pinched by a stored ladder. We trace and replace the run.

Replacing sensors for pre-1993 openers

Openers built before the 1993 UL 325 standard never had sensors and can’t accept them. We replace the opener.

Sensor repair pricing

Alignment and wiring repairs are among the least expensive calls we run. A new sensor pair is a stocked part and the price is quoted before we start.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my garage door close only when I hold the button?

The sensors are blocked or misaligned, so the opener only closes under constant pressure. Clear the beam and check the lights.

Can I bypass the sensors permanently?

No. Bypassing the safety reversal is unsafe and violates the standard every opener since 1993 is built to.

Do sensors wear out?

Yes. Water, sun and age kill them after 10 to 15 years, and a replacement pair is inexpensive.
