Garage Door Remote Not Working in Upland

Upland Garage Door Co. fixes garage door remotes that stop working in Upland, and we’ll tell you up front that about a third of these calls are solved on the phone. The rest are a receiver, an antenna, interference or a lock setting, and those take a visit. Try the first section before you call; it costs nothing.

Try these before you call

Replace the battery, even if the light comes on

A remote LED will light on a battery too weak to reach the opener. A fresh CR2032 or 12-volt A23, depending on the remote, fixes more remotes than anything else.

Check the lock button on the wall console

Most wall consoles have a lock or vacation button that disables every remote. If the opener light blinks when you press the remote but the door doesn’t move, lock mode is on. Hold the button for a few seconds to clear it.

Test from closer

If the remote works at ten feet but not from the street, the antenna wire on the motor head has been tucked up, broken off, or the LED bulbs in the opener are drowning the signal.

Re-pair the remote

Press the learn button on the motor head, then the remote button within 30 seconds. If it won’t learn, the remote is the wrong generation for the opener or the receiver has failed.

What needs a technician

Failed receiver board

The opener works from the wall button but ignores every remote and won’t learn a new one. The receiver is part of the logic board on most units; we replace the board or, on an old unit, recommend a new opener.

Interference

LED bulbs in the opener’s own light sockets, a nearby wireless security camera, or a neighbor’s new router can cut remote range to a few feet. We identify the source and either swap bulbs for opener-rated LEDs or add an external receiver on a clean frequency.

Wrong remote generation

LiftMaster and Chamberlain use Security+ and Security+ 2.0; Genie uses Intellicode I, II and III. A remote from the wrong family will never pair. We supply the right family and program them on the spot.

Broken antenna

The thin wire hanging from the motor head is the antenna. If it has been cut, wrapped around the rail or painted, range drops. It’s a quick fix.

Keypads and car HomeLink

The same faults apply to outdoor keypads and in-car HomeLink buttons. We program both on the same visit, and clear any old codes so a previous owner’s remote no longer works.

Frequently asked questions

Why did all my remotes stop at once?

Lock mode, or a receiver failure. Check the wall console first.

Can you program a universal remote?

Yes. A universal remote set to your opener’s brand and frequency works as well as the branded one.

My remote works but the keypad doesn’t. Same fix?

Usually a dead keypad battery or a worn membrane. Keypads are replaced outright; they aren’t worth repairing.

How much is a remote replacement?

Branded remotes run $40 to $70 plus programming. If the receiver board is the problem, see our opener repair page for the range.
