Genie Garage Door Opener Repair in Upland

Upland Garage Door Co. repairs Genie garage door openers in Upland, including the screw-drive units that other companies turn away because the parts are different from the chain and belt openers they stock. Genie has been sold through Home Depot and independent dealers for decades, so there are a lot of them on Upland garages.

The Genie faults that bring us out

Screw-drive carriage cracked or stripped

Genie’s screw-drive openers move the door with a plastic carriage riding a threaded steel rod. Heat dries the lubricant, the carriage wears, and the door stops partway or slips. A new carriage and fresh screw-drive grease fixes it; the rod itself rarely needs replacing.

Safe-T-Beam sensors blinking red

Genie’s sensors show a red light on the receiving side when they are misaligned or blocked, and the opener will only close if you hold the wall button. We realign or replace the pair and confirm the door reverses on contact.

Intellicode remote stopped pairing

Genie’s rolling-code remotes need the correct generation. A Series II or Series III remote won’t pair to a Series I unit. We supply the right generation and program the keypad at the same time.

Opener light flashing a fault code

The motor-head LED flashes a count that identifies the problem: a limit fault, a sensor fault or a board failure. We read it on arrival, which shortens the visit.

Genie models we work on

Screw-drive: Excelerator, TriloG, IntelliG, ChainMax hybrids

The fast Excelerator and the quieter TriloG are the common screw-drive units. Carriages, limit switches and boards are the usual parts.

Belt and chain drive: SilentMax, StealthDrive, Model 7055 series

Newer Genies that look and behave more like Chamberlain units. Battery backup and Aladdin Connect WiFi are standard on the higher models.

Wall-mount: Genie 6170 and 6070

Jackshaft units beside the door. Cable-tension monitors and the manual release are the parts that need attention.

When a Genie is worth repairing

A screw-drive carriage, sensor pair, remote or limit fix is always worth doing on a unit under about 12 years old. A failed board on an older screw-drive opener is where replacement wins, because the parts are harder to source and a modern belt-drive opener is quieter and includes battery backup.

New opener options are on our opener installation page.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my Genie screw drive squeal?

The screw rod has dried out. Genie-specified grease applied along the rod quiets it; ordinary spray lubricant makes it worse.

Can I use a LiftMaster remote with a Genie?

No. Genie uses Intellicode; LiftMaster uses Security+. A universal remote programmed to Genie’s frequency works if you’d rather not buy brand remotes.

My Genie closes then reopens. What’s wrong?

Either the Safe-T-Beam sensors are out of line or the close-force limit is set too low for the door’s weight. Both are quick adjustments.

Do you install new Genie openers too?

Yes, alongside LiftMaster and Chamberlain. The right brand depends on the door, the ceiling height and whether you want WiFi.
