Upland Garage Door Co. repairs LiftMaster garage door openers in Upland, and LiftMaster is the opener found on more Inland Empire garages than any other, because it is what most installers have hung for the past 25 years. That means the faults are well documented and the parts are easy to get.
The LiftMaster faults we fix most
Stripped gear kit: motor runs, door doesn’t move
The white nylon drive gear inside chain- and belt-drive LiftMasters wears out after years of lifting an unbalanced door. You hear the motor hum, the trolley stays put, and there’s white plastic dust on the motor housing. The gear-and-sprocket kit is a one-hour repair.
Logic board failure: opener dead or acting randomly
A board that has taken a power surge or 15 years of heat will stop responding to remotes, flash error codes or run the door on its own. We replace the board if the unit is worth saving, or recommend a new opener if it is older than about 12 years.
Travel and force limits drifting
When a LiftMaster reverses before closing or doesn’t close fully, the travel limits usually need resetting. On newer units that means the programming buttons; on older units it means adjustment screws on the motor head.
Safety sensor and wiring faults
Flashing diagnostic lights on the motor head almost always point to sensors that are misaligned, dirty or on a broken wire. We realign, rewire or replace them and confirm the reversal test.
Which LiftMaster do you have?
Security+ 2.0 (yellow learn button, 2011 on)
These take the 890MAX, 893MAX and 877MAX remotes and keypads. Most support MyQ WiFi, either built in or through the external gateway.
Security+ (purple, orange or red learn button, pre-2011)
Older units with a purple button take 371LM and 971LM remotes. Orange and red buttons go back further and are usually candidates for replacement rather than repair.
Wall-mount models (8500, 8500W, 87802)
The jackshaft units mounted beside the door. The common faults are the cable tension monitor and the deadbolt lock. Both are repairable.
When repair beats replacement
If the opener is under 10 years old and the fault is a gear kit, sensor, remote or limit setting, repair is the right call. If the logic board has failed on a unit older than 12 years, or the motor itself is burned out, a new belt-drive LiftMaster with battery backup costs less over the next five years than two more repairs would.
We install new LiftMaster openers as well; the details are on our opener installation page.
Frequently asked questions
My LiftMaster blinks 10 times. What does that mean?
Ten flashes on most models means the safety sensors are blocked, misaligned or disconnected. Check for something in the doorway first, then call us if the lights on the sensors aren’t both solid.
Can you program my LiftMaster remote and keypad?
Yes, and we pair your car’s HomeLink while we’re there.
Does LiftMaster’s warranty cover the repair?
Motor warranties run from a few years to lifetime depending on the model; parts warranties are shorter. We’ll tell you if your unit qualifies before quoting.
How is a LiftMaster repair quoted?
The technician diagnoses the door on-site and quotes the full price before any work begins.
